Ephemeral Writing, performance ritual by Adelle Lin and Maria Thrän, 2026

EPHEMERAL WRITING

Ongoing Artistic Research Collaboration with Adelle Lin:
Multidisciplinary Performance · Calligraphy · Walking · Spatial Sound · 2026–ongoing

EPHEMERAL WRITING is an ongoing, long-distance collaborative research project that began in early 2026 together with artist Adelle Lin. It explores multidisciplinary performance ritual through both artists’ practices—Lin’s analog and digital calligraphy, and Thrän’s research into walking, voice, and live synthesized spatial sound. Each trace generates sound and image in dialogue with the others: the pen becomes a voice, movement becomes notation, and the voice becomes visual.

The work asks how language remains embodied when it cannot be written or spoken, and how gesture can carry memory across generations and communities. It explores what can and cannot be expressed in different contexts, and how silence, prohibition, and mistranslation shape embodied communication. Both artists, working in analog and digital formats, aim to find a conversation between these two intersections of their performative practice. TBC

The research is developed and supported by the Onassis Foundation NYC, within their workshop space, the 12-channel sound room, and their motion capture system.
